Yogi In The Making

That's me! A beginner yogi :)

As part of my personal 30 Before 30 challenge, I wanted to start a daily yoga practice - mainly to relax and unwind, each and every day, but also for the stretching and strengthening benefits it has on my body. I attended a couple of yoga classes a few years back and honestly didn't really enjoy them, the ambiance of the studio was off - the lights were too bright and it was too crowded, I felt totally uncomfortable and quickly stopped going. When I decided to start yoga again I knew I would be unable to attend class again - the nearest yoga classes of any kind are an hour and a half away, and I simply cant afford the time or money to travel every day, let alone once a week. So... I started searching for beginner yoga videos on YouTube, and I found a few gems (which I will share) and a few duds (which I will not share, lol)

I found this Yoga for Beginners video from Namaste Yoga to be particularly good. Not only is it basic enough, without being boring, but its incredibly relaxing and there's a great flow to the poses. Dr Melissa has a great relaxing voice, which I find extremely important. We had a yoga DVD around the house which I tried doing the other day, and I was totally put off by the instructors irritating accent.

I also really like the Yogatic videos by Esther Ekhart, here is part 1 of her beginners series:

I like that this is a series, and I am slowly working my way through it. I like to do each video a couple of times before moving on to the next one.

I have by no means accomplished my daily yoga goal, at the moment I practice yoga every three days or so, but I am getting there :)

Do you have any favourite yoga videos? Please do share them in the comments so that I could try them out.

  1. Thanks for these. I've wanted to do yoga for a while now but the one DVD I have drives me crazy, not because of annoying accents, but because I hate doing exactly the same thing every day. Having a rotation of videos would help a lot.
