It is such a pleasure to bring you my review of another one of South Africa's very own cloth nappy systems, the Mother Nature Products all-in-one Bamboo nappy. Along with my review, Mother Nature Products are offering my readers the chance to WIN one of their all-in-one bamboo nappies, a jar of their fabulous baby barrier balm and some of their biodegradable nappy liners!!
Mother Nature Products sent me one of their one size all-in-one nappies to try out on Jesse, they also added in a jar of their very own bum balm and some of their biodegradable nappy liners. Everything arrived very sweetly wrapped up.
The nappy I received to try was their gorgeous mint green, and I was immediately impressed by how small it was, not bulky at all. The inner soaker is a long length of highly absorbent bamboo-cotton towelling, which you then fold to suit your needs. More to the middle for girls and more towards the front for boys. I love the way this is a soaker and booster all in one, and is so adjustable.
As with most brands, the booster works best after a couple of washes, but Jesse isn't a heavy wetter, and I found the booster worked well after just one wash, and even better after two.
This nappy is a snug fitting nappy, and would suit smaller babies, a great cloth nappy to buy to fit newborns to toddlers. Jesse, although not a particularly large 18 month old, has to wear the nappy on the largest setting, but that being said, there is still a bit more room to grow on this setting.
The Mother Nature secret to success: We use high density 100% natural and sustainable Bamboo Towelling (not blended with viscose) which has natural antibacterial properties, feels silky soft and is highly absorbent. Our fabric (made only for Mother Nature) is 3 times the density of similar imported versions on the market making our nappies 3 times more absorbent and durable over time. This is one of the primary reasons why customers consider our nappies the best investment in the cloth nappy market.
The Mother Nature Products nappy has a stretchy waistband which allows for its snug fit, and it has gusseted leg bands to ensure no leaks. Indeed we did not experience any leaks whilst using it. The inner soaker is removable to allow for easy washing and is safe for tumble-drying. I found it dried relatively quickly in the sun too. The outer shell has a hidden waterproof layer, between two layers of soft polyester. The inner soaker is fantastically soft against Jesse's skin, and I saw no tell-tale marks where the nappy had rubbed or pinched him. All in all a very comfy nappy.
The Mother Nature Products Mother & Baby Balm is great, it is chock full of natural ingredients such as extra virgin olive oil, castor oil, rice bran oil and beeswax to moisturize, and feed the skin, with a hint of Cape chamomile making it soothing, lavender for healing and tea-tree oil for anti-bacterial / anti-fungal. This is a great smelling balm, and I used it as a preventative on Jesse to ward of rashes, and it worked like a charm. I also used it on a spot of eczema on my hand that flares up in winter, and it soothed and calmed the itchy skin wonderfully.
An all-purpose balm that is gentle but effective in protecting, nourishing and healing mother & baby's skin. Aids healing of dry, irritated skin, nappy rash and eczema. Also useful for cracked or chapped skin, abrasions and other minor skin irritations. Can be gently massaged into breasts and sore nipples. Helps in the prevention and treatment of stretch marks. Essential addition to your baby bag.
We all know how essential nappy liners are when using cloth nappies, especially once your baby starts eating solid food and pooh's are no longer water soluble. To avoid whole undigested raisins and peas from clogging your washing machines filer I advise the use of a good bio-degradable nappy liner. The Mother Nature Products Biodegradable and Flushable Nappy Liners are perfect, they take approximately 30 days to fully degrade and are made of mostly wood pulp.
Mother Nature Products are very proud that all of their products are 100% South African and locally designed, made and distributed from Cape Town, creating local employment.

I'm so lucky to have found this blog! Actually just working on a post about how I'm hoping to embrace natural parenting once baby #2 gets here. (Due May 27th!) I've never seen the mother nature products before, but they look phenomenal!
ReplyDeleteI learned some bamboo washing care tips from the website! I currently only have microfibre inserts :(
www.theprudentmother.wordpress.com
They have a variety of eco friendly products that are organic when possible and that their diapers work better than disposables.
ReplyDeleteI love these nappies, so cute! I am a huge Mother Nature fan, and think its great that their nappies are made in SA :)
ReplyDeleteI learned that the mom behind Mother Nature Products was inspired after seeing cloth diapers widely used in London, and has since become an eco-savvy mompreneur! Too cool!
ReplyDeletei only have microfiber as well so it was of great insight to me to read about how to care for bamboo
ReplyDeleteLastly, the fact that babies in cloth nappies tend to potty train roughly 6 months earlier! amazing!
ReplyDeleteI learned that Mother Nature products strive to be both socially and environmentally aware - fantastic!!
ReplyDeletelearned that they don't blend their bamboo with viscose :) love the nature nappy too!
ReplyDeleteI think it's so cool that they locally manufacture all their products! Now, THAT's a green company :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the way I'm linking up with so many like minded 'greenies' through face book links to pages and blogs :) Great to find another one to follow and another exciting competition to enter!! I'm also a big fan of mother nature products, particularly because they live their vision, which is to promote 'green living' by being a company that upholds ethical manufacturing practices, uses a choice of natural materials, and supports local suppliers - Go Mother Nature Team!! Thanks for all your hard work :)
ReplyDeleteI learned that they keep their carbon footprint as small as possible by manufacturing locally and avoiding long transport hauls.
ReplyDeleteI learned that they manufactor locally to decrease shipping long distance!
ReplyDeleteI learned how to care for bamboo! I just got my first bamboo inserts and I am so glad that I saw this and learned how to properly care for them!

I learned that all of their products are made from 100% natural bamboo yarn and not bamboo viscose.
ReplyDeleteDisposable diapers make up 70% of the waste in SA! That is INSANE! :(
ReplyDeleteI learned that they use 100% Natural Bamboo fibres. (awesome and hard to find in the US!)
ReplyDeleteI liked their knowledge about bamboo: "We use bamboo yarn. Bamboo is highly regenerative - it grows back after harvesting swiftly and easily using a far smaller land area than cotton and it does not require crop spraying." I love bamboo in cloth diapers!
ReplyDeleteI learned the household waste is increasing by a rate 4 - 5% higher than the growing population rate. The more affluent an area becomes the greater the amount of waste disposed. In a family with one baby in nappies, disposable nappies account for half your household waste.
ReplyDeleteI learned that the AIO bamboo nappy is the only All-In-One to use 100% Natural Bamboo Yarn (no viscose).
ReplyDeleteI learned their company uses natural, organic, and recycled materials. And that bamboo is antibacterial!
ReplyDeleteEverything is natural just like a baby is natural. So guess what. Natural is the best!
ReplyDeleteGreat review. The product sounds awesome
ReplyDeleteI learned that I'm gonna spare 5000 disposable nappies from being dumped!!!
ReplyDeleteI learned that they use bamboo yarn and that bamboo is highly regenerative (which I did not know!)

I also love that Mother Nature Products is a South African company that sells great products. Already have 2 all-in-ones to try out on my baby boy due in June. I am eager to go green :)
